Gunpoint

Gunpoint is a stealth spy game about breaking into buildings and stealing valuable information. There's sort of a detective noir vibe to it, since you wear a trench-coat, and your mission is to find out who murdered the woman who hired you.

So, each level has a building, filled with security guards, cameras, electronic doors, noise sensors, alarms etc. You've got a few tricks up your sleeve though. Firstly, you've got some sort of gadget pants that let you leap tall buildings, crash through windows, and stick to walls and ceilings. Secondly, and probably the most useful item in the game, is a hacking tool that allows you to remotely rewire the electronics in the building. So, for example, you can make a light switch open a door, or a motion sensor sets off the elevator. There's a fair bit of room for flexibility in how exactly you want to solve the levels, although ironically, despite the name of the game, gun play is probably the only tactic that won't reliably work.

I really enjoy these sorts of stealth games. There's nothing quite like sneaking up and knocking out all the guards until you're perched on the ceiling above the one last guard wondering where everybody went. Kinda makes you feel like batman.

Gunpoint is the first game from Suspicious Developments, and as a first game, it gives a strong
impression. I've been following their work ever since. The biggest criticism that's been levelled at this game is that it's too short. And while it  is short, and I feel like it would have been great if it was longer, I don't think I'd call it too short. It's long enough to tell it's story. And if you want more content, there's a level editor that has been used to great effect by players, so you can play fan made content easily.

So, it's good, but how good is it? Well, the hacking tool is unique and original, it definitely gets points for that. The writing and story is good, the puzzling levels are lots of fun. I'd give it 4/5 stars. Really worth checking out.
